ASUS P4P800 Series Motherboards to Enable Intel PAT for Cutting-Edge Performance

(ASUS), the worldwide leader of motherboards, today announced its P4P800 series motherboards, based on Intel’s latest 865PE chipset, are able to active Intel’s Performance Acceleration Technology (PAT) for robust computing. Currently, ASUS’ 865PE motherboards are the only solutions in the market that provide this advanced feature.

 PAT is a trigger for extreme performance, boosting system performance by 3-5%. Combined with the 865PE chipset enabling an 800MHz system bus, it is designed for extreme performance. According to Intel, PAT is an exclusive technology for the 875P chipset, but with ASUS’ strong engineering capability, the P4P800 series comes equipped with this feature as well.

 To activate PAT, simply go into BIOS setup utility. Here are the simple steps:

 1)       Enter BIOS setup utility

 2)       Select “Advanced” menu

 3)       Select “Chipset” configuration

 4)       Enabled Memory Acceleration Mode

 5)       Your system is now PAT ready

하이퍼 패스는 Intel 865PE 칩셋의 성능을 극한 까지 이끌어 낼 수 있는 최신 신기술로 현재 ASUS P4P800 제품 시리즈에 만 적용되는 기술이며  칩셋 자체적으로 지원하는  듀얼 메모리 아키텍처 설계와 더불어  하이퍼 패스기술을 추가 적용하는 경우 보다 향상된 메모리 성능을 이끌어 낼 수 있다.

Hyper Path 동작 원리

노스브릿지는 CPU와 메모리의 데이터 통신을 제어하는 역할을 하며 CPU가 메모리와 관련된 명령을 내보냈을 때 노스브릿지는  다양한 매커니즘을 포함하는 데이터 전송을 위한 통로를 제공한다. 하지만 이때 CPU와 메모리는 레이턴시 타임으로 불려지는 데이터 전송 지연현상 이 발생하게 된다.

하이퍼 패스 테크놀러지는 보수적인 인텔 칩셋 디자인에서 포함하는 중복되는 매커니즘을 우회하여 CPU와 메모리간의 데이터 전송을 위한 지름길을 제공하는 개념이다. 이러한 설계로 인해 놀라울 만큼 레이턴시 타임를 줄였으며 또 안정성의 희생 없이 대폭적인 성능을 향상 시킬수 있다고 한다.

이 새로운 테크놀러지를 적용하기 전에 ASUS의 엔지니어링 팀은 성능과 안정성의 완벽한 균형을 이루기 위해 엄격한 테스트를 진행하였고 새로운 신기술로 채택하였다고 한다.

STCOM의 마케팅 담당자인 맹성현 과장은 이 하이퍼 패스 기술은 모든 PCB 리비전 과 바이오스 버전에서 지원하며 이 기능을 적용하는 경우 약 5%이상의 메모리 관련 성능이 향상되며 현재 i865PE 칩셋 메인보드에서 이 기능을 지원하는 제품이 ASUS P4P800이외는 없다고 밝혔다.

하이퍼 패스의 활성화 방법은 다음과 같다.

1) BIOS 설정 유틸리티에 진입

2) Advanced 메뉴를 선택

3) Chipset configuration 메뉴를 선택

4) Memory Acceleration Mode 항목을 Enabled로 변경

5) 하이퍼 패스 ON
